Grape Salad

Topping Added to Grape Salad

I’m not sure if this Grape Salad should really be called a salad….

Are salads really supposed to taste THIS good??

First, the grapes are covered in a yummy sweetened cream cheese/sour cream mixture!

Then they are and topped off with brown sugar and pecans for the ultimate sweetness with added crunch!

While this definitely tastes good enough to eat for dessert, we will keep referring to it as a salad, because hey, the main ingredient IS a fruit!

Perfect Potluck Salad

I first got this recipe from my twin sister, Kathy, several years ago when I was looking for something to make for a summer gathering.  I wanted to bring something different I’d never made before.

The email she sent me with the recipe said, “It’s definitely not the healthiest, but it’s really good!”

She was right!  I’ve gotten nothing but compliments every time I make this.

It’s perfect for backyard barbecues, potluck picnics, family reunions, or any holiday gathering!

How to Make Grape Salad

This salad is really simple to make.

It makes quite a bit, and is easy to throw together quickly!

All you need is grapes, cream cheese, sour cream, granulated sugar, vanilla, brown sugar, and pecans.

Ingredients for Grape Salad

Start by washing the grapes.  Pat dry with a paper towel afterwards.

Washed Grapes

In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to combine cream cheese and sour cream.

If you’re looking to cut out some calories, you can definitely use light cream cheese and sour cream.  I promise it will taste just as good!

Next, add granulated sugar and vanilla.

Add Sugar and Vanilla

Beat until creamy smooth.

Cream Cheese Mixture

Add the grapes to the cream cheese mixture.

Toss to coat grapes in that sweet creamy goodness!

Now you see why this kind of looks like a dessert?

Close Up of Grape Salad

Transfer to a large serving dish.  I prefer a longer shallow dish, such as a 9″ x 13″ or 11″ x 13″.

While you could serve it in a large bowl, this works better for when you add the topping, because it gets more evenly distributed among servings.

In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and pecans for the topping.

Brown Sugar and Pecans

The original recipe Kathy gave me called for 1 cup of brown sugar and 1 cup of pecans.  However, if you want to cut calories or you’re short on pecans, I have reduced this to 1/2 cup of each and it still tasted amazing!

As long as you keep the amount of brown sugar and pecans equal, I think anywhere between 1/2 – 1 cup will appease most taste buds!

Mixed Topping

Finish off salad by covering with this sweet crunchy topping!
